The Distinguished Informal Science Education Award
is given for distinguished service in the field of
informal science education. Nominations for this
award come from the LSTA membership and any current
member in good standing is encouraged to nominate a
colleague for this prestigious award.
The award is designed to recognize one LSTA
member who is not a classroom teacher and who has
made extraordinary contributions to the advancement
of science education in other than a traditional
school setting. Examples would include (but is not
limited to) individuals who work for a
science-technology center, museum, nature center or
community service center. Representatives from
business or industry also are potential nominees.
The nominee must have been a member of LSTA for a
minimum of 3 years.
Composition of Award
The award consists of a formal citation, a $100 gift
certificate and a complimentary one-year membership
in LSTA. The award will be presented at the LSTA
convention.
Types
of Outstanding Services

Excellence of contribution in the area of science
education is the main criterion for selection of the
recipient. Among the types of outstanding services
that are considered by the committee are:

Continuing support of LSTA as exemplified by
attendance and presentations at LSTA conferences
and
other science professional development functions
-
Contributions to LSTA over a significant period of
time
-
Unique
or extraordinary accomplishments in informal science
education.

Active
leadership in informal science education.
-
Focusing
of public attention on the need for improvement of
informal science education.

Overall
excellence of contributions.
One (1) original and four (4) copies of all
materials and letters of support must be submitted
in one envelope to:
