Building a Presence for Science, a major initiative of the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), is designed to improve the teaching and learning of science from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Louisiana is currently one of 24 states and the District of Columbia networked in the award winning  program.

Building a Presence  state networks are made possible by public and private partners who also work with the NSTA.

Building a Presence Louisiana is made possible with funds provided by Exxon-Mobil Foundation and implemented by stakeholders from the Louisiana Educational Community:

  • Louisiana Association Science Leaders (LASL)

Building a Presence consists of a cadre of Key Leaders and a Point of Contact for science in every public and private school forming a network. The program aims to bring standards-based teaching and learning into schools and to help teachers implement the National Science Education Standards  in conjunction with state science standards.

The mission of Building a Presence for Science is to end the isolation of classroom science teachers.

The goals of the program are:

  • A Point of Contact for standards-based science teaching and
    learning in every school;

  • An ongoing, permanent human and electronic network of
    science educators;

  • An infrastructure of national and state partners.
